A Really "Off" Week

It was really hard to get into a groove this week, and that was right from the get-go. Monday morning started out with our middle school staff meeting at 8:30 am. It got done at about 9:00, and the next meeting for the day was a 5th-grade team meeting at 9:30. Well, around 9:20 my wife, who was sitting across from me at the kitchen table (that's my "office") started to act strangely. My wife has multiple sclerosis, so there are plenty of stories I could tell you about her health. Needless to say, though, this didn't look good and needed to be addressed quickly. Out of nowhere, she began to tremble, had difficulty completing sentences, couldn't make eye contact, and had poor depth perception/motor skills. We've been together long enough, however, that some of these symptoms have come up in the past. As a complication to her MS, my wife is prone to UTIs--she probably gets one every other year, if not more. I took her temperature and he had a fever of 100.7. We called the doctor's office and left a message; then we played the waiting game. Knowing her history, the doctor's office recommended we take a trip to the ER so that my wife could get tests done to determine if it was a UTI. At this point it was about 11:30, so we got in the car and headed to the hospital. With everything going on, however, I wasn't allowed to go in with her. This made things challenging because my wife was pretty out of it, so I needed to explain everything that was going on with the ER staff over the phone while I sat in the parking lot. Eventually, following a series of tests, they were able to confirm a UTI. It definitely made for a long afternoon, though, as we didn't leave the hospital until about 3:45. Good thing I had my phone to play on and answer emails from students!
The ER staff had given her some antibiotics and they helped right away. The additional antibiotics we picked up should do the trick...until the next time.
Having a Monday like that really throws off the week, though, so it was a challenge to get into a routine. Luckily my science students had a two-day assignment to do, so that eased some of the stress for Tuesday's lesson! Most of my Tuesday was spent going through the assignment the students turned in and sending them emails asking them to be a little more detailed with their assignment. I also spent a chunk of Tuesday preparing the assignment for Thursday because there were a couple of students who requested to have it Wednesday since they would be taking a long Memorial Day weekend and were leaving for camping on Thursday. Not being able to be on my Chromebook for most of Monday definitely made time seem to be crunched, but I was able to get everything taken care of. And now we have a 4-day weekend, so that will (hopefully) give me the opportunity to de-stress! We will see what next week brings!
