What a Long Week!
Not a bad week, but it just felt really long...one of those weeks where you can't remember what happened at the beginning of the week unless you really think hard. All in all, it was a good week (except for yesterday--yesterday sucked), but a rather busy week both in and out of school.
Things have become pretty routine-oriented for school now. Monday is spent in staff and team meetings in the morning, and a homeroom video chat with the students tossed in before lunch. The afternoon is then spent emailing students with missing work updates and feedback from assignments turned in over the weekend along with prepping for Tuesday's science lesson and assignment. This particular Monday also brought a little excitement out of school hours; my daughter and I finished building a desk for her room. She wants to redecorate her room with some homemade furniture, and a desk was the first thing on the list. She designed it, I cut the wood, she stained it, and we worked together building it. It was a fun little project. Next up is either a shoe rack or headboard.
Tuesday mornings are usually spent with some Google Meet "office hours" for the students to ask questions about the lesson and assignment--I don't get very many visitors, but it is nice when I do--the students seem to really appreciate being able to talk through their questions face to face. So much so that many times when they email me at other times, I will just send them a Google Meet link so that we can talk it through. Tuesday afternoons are then spent looking over assignments that have been turned in and giving feedback.
As I mentioned earlier, this Wednesday sucked. Apparently, I must have spent too much time sitting on Tuesday (or, more likely, sitting with poor posture) because my tailbone really hurt on Wednesday. Like the type that hurts anytime you bend at the waist or (especially when) sitting down. I ended up switching out my usual chair for one that has more cushion. And I'm going to keep the cushioned chair until the school year is done (I had been working at the kitchen table, and apparently my butt was just fed up with no cushion). Even though I was sore, however, that didn't stop us from having some excitement in our household Wednesday afternoon-we added a new pet to the family! We are now the proud owners of a turtle named Kiwi!
Today was especially busy (and not nearly as painful) with Google Meet. I had a 5th-grade team meeting in the morning followed by virtual office hours. After that, I had set up some online Kahoot games with my different science classes. I had the students join a Google Meet, and then I put my computer in presentation mode. That allows them to see my screen (and the Kahoot questions). The students then open up another tab where they log into the Kahoot game (so they are able to answer questions). Overall, it went pretty well. The computers were a bit glitchy at the beginning of the first class, but we were able to troubleshoot that for the most part. By the third class, it ran very smoothly.
Here's to hoping that tomorrow is nice, quiet, and relaxing!
